About

My name is Bruno Chagas. My first contact with karate was in adolescence with Robert Trias’s Shorei-Ryu lineage, and since then I have fallen in love with art. I am currently a shodan black belt by the Tanaka Karate-Do Association, an organization based in São Paulo, Brazil.

In the 1960s, the Tanaka Karate-Do Association (at the time called the Paulista Karate Association) was the first representative of Kyokushinkai in South America. In 1974, my master, Tsunioshi Tanaka, left Kyokushin and our organization followed independently with a methodology derived from Mas Oyama Karate, as did other organizations such as Seido Juku, World Oyama Karate, Ashihara and others.

I try to be a studious person about Karate and explore as much as I can about this art, especially the martial aspect. Within Karate, I am especially interested in history, in cultural and bunkai aspects. I am a journalist, which somehow influences how I try to delve into the topics of my interest.

I created this blog and profiles with the name “Puro Karate” as a way to share my thoughts, studies and Karate training independently. The idea is to explore the art as much as possible!
